Rathcline GAA Galway Race Day 2014

Statement from Rathcline GAA

A Chara,

I would like to thank everyone who traveled to our inaugural Race Day Fundraiser at the Galway Races on Monday 29th July in Ballybrit. Without your support the success of the event would not be possible. I want to say a special thanks to our main sponsor Bernard Keane of Supervalu Lanesboro for his valuable and very generous contribution to the event.

Well done to our organising committee which was headed up by Albert Cooney in show casing our club in the best possible light. The hard work and organisation of around the event really payed off; the fundraiser being a major success for our club and a great day was had by all.

As you all know our club, Rathcline GAA, has fantastic facilities in Clonbonny and these facilities provide not only our senior team but also the Minor Club and the Ladies Club with the perfect platform on which to prepare all teams.  Every year we have the challenge of meeting repayments for these facilities, and the Galway Races has indeed played its part in bringing in some of the required funds for this season’s loan term. The club would like to thank all our supporters who consistently dig deep in their pockets to help with the financial situation in the club.

I would like to thank the chairman of the Leinster Council - Mr. Martin Skelly for carrying out the role of MC on the day, and to our own club county chairman Mr. Brendan Gilmore as well as the other members of CLG Coiste Contae Longfort for their attendance at the fundraiser.

Anyone that was in attendance could not argue with the quality of the facilities in Ballybrit. The hospitality shown by the Lydon House Catering Company was second to none.

Finally I would like to thank all the people who donated very attractive spot-prizes for the day. A full list of donations and winners can be seen below.

I hope the club can bed down this novel fundraising idea for many years to come and already I look forward to next year’s event.

Go raibh maith agaibh go leir!

Dear Reader,

As part of the Club Annual Fundraising campaign, Rathcline GAA are proposing to run a Race Day Fundraiser at the Galway Races on Monday 29th July 2013. We hope to replicate the success of that achieved by Longford County Board at Punchestown only on a much smaller scale which will satisfy the needs of our own club.

The driving force behind the fundraiser is to fulfill the Club commitment to the local Credit Union by the end of September. Traditionally, this annual debt is normally served through the roll out of ticket fundraisers at this time of the year. This season, our newly formed financial committee are thinking outside the box in terms of ways of bringing in money as well as giving something back to our patrons & supporters. The addition of a social element to Club Function/Events has become a major positive in the way we do our business. This is best demonstrated by the success of the recent Croagh Patrick Sponsored Climb on the 11th May where more than 60 people climbed the reek in conjunction with having a club social night in Westport; a weekend which was enjoyed by one and all.

The Galway Races concept is no different where our parishioners, members, supporters and friends can enjoy a fantastic afternoon of horse racing on opening day of the 2013 festival. The club have agreed in principle an attractive hospitality package with the organisers in Ballybrit which surpasses that seen at the Annual Punchestown County Board Fundraiser. The poster above outlines the main aspects of the package and it is hard to argue with the value of the concept for one and all.

Most people will be familiar with the Galway Races but for those who are not; a great day out is always guaranteed. Ballybrit at the end of July is always the highlight of the horse racing calender in Ireland and it is the aim of Rathcline GAA to tap into the atmosphere, banter and craic to serve our own needs as well as giving something back to our supporters.
The generated funds will go directly to help the financial fundraising campaign for the 2013 season.  Leave your mind open to having an enjoyable afternoon in July in the knowledge that you are supporting your local GAA club in the process.

Many thanks,

Rathcline GAA Financial Committee 2013
